It's an accepted fact that corporate lawyers always try to gain credit for advising on an M&A deal. But magic circle rivals Linklaters and Freshfields took this to another level last week.
Both were trying to claim full credit for advising Gas Natural on its bid for Spanish electricity company Endesa. Indeed, when Tulkinghorn's scribe tried to get to the bottom of the mystery, one firm (which shall be nameless, but work it out) even claimed to have replaced the other on the high-profile deal.
But it finally transpired that both firms are indeed advising Gas Natural, with Freshfields taking the lead role. Grow up, boys.
