So much for lawyers being weedy wets who preferred extra Latin at school to getting muddy on the sports field.
The annual Film Industry Football Championship, contested by 32 teams at Craven Cottage last week, ended in a hard-fought, all-lawyer final, in which Davenport Lyons beat Harbottle & Lewis 2-1.
Davenport Lyons film and TV associate and team captain Paul Mustafa could barely contain his delight after the result. Just as in professional life, he said, winning was simply a question of superior skill. "Credit must go to Harbottles for putting up a good fight, but in the end they were just out-played," he added, mustering as much grace as he could manage.
Davenports and Harbottles were the sole law firms in the competition, although it also included such luminaries as Christopher Ecclestone, aka Doctor Who. So for both firms to make it to the final was a tremendous achievement, amply rewarded by a trophy, which according to Mustafa "was an excellent receptical for drinking copious quantities of champagne".
