Longstanding Fujitsu Services group counsel and company secretary Richard Allnutt has resigned his post after the company appointed Peter Rowley as group legal and commercial director.
Speaking to The Lawyer, a Fujitsu spokesman said: "Allnutt was given the option to stay on in the role of general counsel, but decided to seek new challenges elsewhere."
It is understood that the position of general counsel will be abolished with Allnutt's departure.
Rowley was head of legal at Marconi and has since held senior legal roles at General Electric and British Aerospace. Former Simmons & Simmons partner Allnutt has not secured new employment.
Sources told The Lawyer that Fujitsu has been wracked internally by management difficulties between the legal and commercial departments and that the company is hoping Rowley will heal the divisions.
"Richard was an outstanding general counsel but the commercial community had a different agenda," said a source.
Fujitsu has previously used Baker & McKenzie, Barlow Lyde & Gilbert, Linklaters, Morrison & Foerster, Pinsent Masons and Slaughter and May for legal advice, although the company does not have a formal panel.
