From low life to lawyer

Tulkinghorn has on occasion regaled readers with tales of lawyers’ former lives. Many a failed popstar, ageing athlete or one-time bartender has graced this august page. Few, however, have reached the dizzy heights (or should that be lows) of White & Case projects partner Neil Upton.

Before the law beckoned, Upton earned his crust as a carpet salesman. So good was he that he is a former recipient of MFI’s Top Shagpile Seller Award. According to decorate-redecorate.com, research shows that “short, dense-pile carpets” are the hardest-wearing type you can buy. Does this also apply to lawyers? Tulkinghorn congratulates Neil on having the best possible grounding for a life in the law.
