Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is taking Germany to the International Court of Justice alleging the violation of international law.
`Last week Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer submitted an application to the ICJ in The Hague on behalf of the principality of Liechtenstein.`It accuses Germany of disregarding the sovereignty of the State of Liechtenstein and violating the right to peaceful enjoyment of property.`The dispute stems from World War II when Czechoslovakia confiscated assets belonging to Liechtenstein, claiming that they were German and therefore available for war reparations. Liechtenstein has always denied that the assets were German but in 1998 Germany's highest constitutional court disagreed.`Freshfields Düsseldorf partner Alexander Goepfert has been appointed as a special commissioner and agent of Liechtenstein to conduct the case before the court.
