Freshfields puts spotlight on disputes project management

Litigation is becoming a bigger and bigger beast in management terms, with document review, case management and cost budgeting all firmly in the limelight.

Time then for more firms to follow Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s lead and introduce global project managers?

Disputes head Chris Pugh is hoping to lure in an in-house contact (and maybe even more than one) to join his new leadership team, set to be established by the end of the year.

They could soon be helping out on cases like the firm’s High Court fight for CVC Capital Partners, which saw the private equity house forced to pay out €129 (£103m) to Budweiser brewer Annheuser-Busch InBev.

Other recent high-profile cases include a record-breaking $16.6bn (£10bn) settlement brokered by Skadden Arps Meagher & Flom for client Bank of America to resolve allegations of fraudulent mortgage handling last month.

And don’t forget the ongoing battle between Autonomy, Hewlett-Packard, and now Deloitte.

The courts are coming back soon – just in time for Freshfields’ new team to get their teeth into some brand new projects.
