Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has unveiled the new co-heads of its global antitrust, competition and trade (ACT) practice.
Former Brussels managing partner John Davies and Düsseldorf-based partner Martin Klusmann will take over from David Aitman and Helmut Bergmann on 15 September. Aitman and Helmut have led the practice since 2006.
Freshfields’ ACT team is widely regarded as the leading practice in the UK, winning The Lawyer’s Competition Team of the Year award three years running between 2007 and 2009. Among its biggest clients are BAA, Hewlett-Packard and Tesco.
Freshfields senior partner Konstantin Mettenheimer said: “John and Martin are outstanding competition lawyers and recognised experts in their fields. Their client-driven approach, coupled with their determination to foster talent from within the firm, will ensure that we remain a market leader in this key area for our clients.”
John Davies said: “The strength of our competition practice lies in our depth and broad geographical presence, and in the last few years we have elected 10 partners in Europe, the US and Asia, giving a huge boost to our partner bench. We are looking forward to working with the team to maintain its leading market position and to meet our clients’ increasing needs for experienced competition advice at a time when enforcement continues to intensify around the world.”
