The pair anticipate that Freshfields' strong position in borrower financing work will create more opportunities for referrals over and above conflicts. As borrowers' counsel, Freshfields has previously referred some business to Clifford Chance.
Allen?said:?"We'll probably be able to work quite a lot with the guys [at White & Case in London]."
White & Case London co-banking head Christopher Kandel said: "We expect that we'll probably be referring business back and forth between the two firms. After all, there are always two sides to every deal."
Allen and Goetz were elected to the magic circle firm's partnership two weeks ago following strategic differences with White & Case's management in New York and their subsequent exit.
The duo, who joined Freshfields the week after their resignations from the US firm, have been tasked with building Freshfields' lender practice.
