Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has seen Düsseldorf corporate partner Hildegard Bison leave to join the European arm of longstanding client BP in a senior in-house role.
Bison, who has been at the magic circle firm for 18 years, has joined BP Europa as assistant general counsel and legal manager for FVC Rhine, the oil giant’s fuels value chain covering the company’s refining and marketing business in Germany and the surrounding regions. She started in the new position on 1 November.
While at Freshfields, she focused on private M&A and sat on the firm’s partnership recommendation committee for six years.
Bison replaces former BP Europa legal head Klaus-Günther Hahn, who left the company in January this year. His destination has not been confirmed.
A Freshfields spokesperson said in a statement: “We thank Hildegard for her 18 year contribution to the firm, congratulate her on this exciting appointment and wish her the very best in her new role.”
The news follows the recent departure of BP associate general counsel Adrian Morris to replace Alan Porter as group general counsel of Tesco (9 November 2012).
Freshfields has established ties with BP and was re-appointed to its UK legal panel last year (26 May 2011). Among its highest-profile mandates from the energy company was a role advising on the aftermath of the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill (7 July 2010).
