Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is lagging behind key competitors Allen & Overy at the half-year stage.
Freshfields' turnover at the halfway point was £380m - a rise of less than 10 per cent on the same period last year.
The lower than average increase comes despite a good run of form for Freshfields that has seen it triumph for the Bank of England in the BCCI litigation and resurrect its slumped corporate team. The firm expects a better second-half.
