Freshfields installs new US chief

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed New York-based corporate partner Julian Pritchard to the role of US regional managing partner.

Pritchard replaces structured finance partner Brian Rance, who held the post for three years.

Pritchard said: “What marks our business in the US is the exceptional quality of the teams that we’ve built in all the areas in which we practice - we don’t do everything but what we do, we do very well.”

Freshfields has maintained a cautious growth strategy in the US, making few lateral hires since launching there in 1977.

That said, the firm recently made some significant hires in New York. Earlier this year The Lawyer reported that the magic circle firm hired Covington & Burling partners Adam Marcu and Adam Siegel and Willkie Farr & Gallagher partner Benito Romano to launch a litigation team in New York (22 January 2009).

This month Freshfields strengthened the New York litigation team hiring Bank of America deputy general counsel and director of litigation David Onorato (13 July 2009).
