Freshfields expands US litigation practice with BoA hire

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has strengthened its nascent US litigation and arbitration group with the hire of the former deputy general counsel and director of litigation at Bank of America, David Onorato.
Earlier this year the firm launched its US litigation practice after hiring a trio of partners from two leading US practices. Aaron Marcu and Adam Siegel joined from the New York office of Covington & Burling while Benito Romano joined from Willkie Farr & Gallagher (22 January 2009).
Onorato’s arrival will add weight to the civil litigation side of the practice, particularly in relation to disputes for financial institution clients and on matters involving securities and complex financial products.
Onorato will also work with Freshfields’ global white-collar and investigations team on Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement, consumer protection and other regulatory matters, as well as on internal corporate investigations and the defence of federal and state investigations involving financial institution clients.
In a statement Freshfields’ global dispute resolution head Chris Pugh said: “David’s been involved in several key class actions involving more than $1bn over the past five years.
“His combination of private practice and in-house experience will be a valuable addition to the quality and breadth of our litigation practice in the US.”
