Freshfields duo breaks away to form Munich start-up
Two Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer lawyers have teamed up with a former colleague to launch a corporate M&A boutique in Munich.

Business law firm Gütt Olk Feldhaus will cover finance and capital markets regulatory law as well as the areas of compliance, business succession, estate and litigation.
The three founding partners of the firm are Tilmann Gütt, Sebastian Olk and Heiner Feldhaus.
Gütt and Feldhaus start the venture directly from Freshfields. Olk joins from US firm Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy, which he joined in 2008 after spending several years working at Freshfields.
Olk said the founding partners always shared the same interest in establishing an entrepreneurial venture themselves. He added that for them this is a logical next step after working at a large law firm.
Gütt Olk Feldhaus is primarily oriented towards small and medium-sized enterprises, financial investors and private clients. The new outfit will also work with industrial corporations and financial institutions that may wish to move away from large firms.
The three founders plan to expand the firm in the near future through lateral recruitment. That said, Gütt and Olk said that they will take care not to expand too quickly.

It surely cannot have escaped the attention of the powers that be at Freshfields that smaller firms like Gutt Olk Feldhaus and Field Grieb are picking up more and more of what conventionally was seen as City Work. The days of needing a team of five (and often more) lawyers on a Public Listing are well and truly over.
