Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has scooped a mandate to advise on the $9.8bn (£5.21bn) Bank of China IPO - the world's biggest share listing for six years.
It is understood that Freshfields won the work from the bank after participating in a beauty parade. It is the first time that the magic circle firm has advised Bank of China. Hong Kong corporate partner Kay Ian Ng is leading the team.
Sullivan & Cromwell is acting for Bank of China on US aspects of the IPO, while Shearman & Sterling has secured the instruction to advise underwriters Goldman Sachs and UBS. Allen & Overy is also acting for the underwriters on Hong Kong law. King & Wood and Jun He Law Offices are understood to be handling local law aspects of the float.
The shares are expected to make their stock market debut on Thursday 1 June.
Bank of China will be the second of the country's top four banks to list on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the country's largest lender, is understood to be planning a $10bn (£5.31bn) Hong Kong listing later this year.
