A host of firms in Paris have fought off an illegal filesharing case brought by the producers of the hit French film Les Choristes.
Baker & McKenzie, Bredin Prat, Herbert Smith, independent firm Latournerie Wolfrom, Salans and Winston & Strawn represented Telecom Italia, AOL France, state lottery company La Française des Jeux, Crédit Agricole subsidiary Finaref and railway operator SNCF respectively in the lawsuit brought by Galatée Films and Pathé Renn Productions.
The production companies said the defendant companies were complicit in piracy because their websites carried advert links to peer-to-peer networks, where Les Choristes was available for illegal download after its 2004 release.
But on 21 June a Paris court ruled that they were not complicit in the filesharing, while acknowledging the occurrence of illegal downloads of the film.
