Former Simmons & Simmons competition star Peter Freeman has been appointed as the new chairman of the Competition Commission.
Freeman has been acting as chairman at the commission since the death of the previous chairman, Professor Paul Geroski, who died in August this year.
He joined the commission in May 2003 after quitting his job as Simmons’ head of competition. He has been deputy chairman of the commission since September 2003.
“These are the most regrettable circumstances in which to succeed to this important position, but the Competition Commission is a very strong institution and I am confident I can give it the direction it now needs,” Freeman said.
Freeman is currently chairing market inquiries into Home Collected Credit and Domestic Bulk LPG.
