Freehills and Alban Tay end alliance

The joint venture between Australian firm Freehills and Singapore firm Alban Tay Mahtani & de Silva has been terminated by mutual consent.
Alban Tay partner Alban Kang said: “Each firm had its own reasons for wanting to end the joint venture. Our reasons for wanting to join with a large international firm have not changed. If the right party comes along, we'll consider it.”
Freehills was one of the first law firms and the only Australian firm to form a joint venture. Other joint ventures have been fraught with problems. The partnership between White & Case and Colin Ng & Partners has collapsed (The Lawyer, 11 March) and Norton Rose has cooled on the idea of a Singaporean joint venture.
