Many solicitors reading the comments of Paul Boateng regarding pro bono work will feel very offended (The Lawyer 10 December) .
A large number of high street solicitors carry out a lot of such work in their local communities, and many assist clients either for no fee or a fee that is very nominal. The recent meeting held on a Saturday morning in Chancery, when some 40 solicitors gave up time to attend, showed how much is being done by the profession quietly and without fuss or publicity.
Mr Boateng appears to be very uninformed and I respectfully suggest he should make full enquiries and carry out proper research before lambasting the solicitors profession for ignoring pro bono work.
