Bircham Dyson Bell lawyers face axe" />Bircham Dyson Bell has made three lawyers redundant, while another is in redundancy talks.
Two real estate lawyers and one corporate lawyer have lost their jobs, while a third real estate lawyer is currently in a redundancy consultation.
A firm spokesperson said: “We are exposed to the downturn in the commercial and residential property sectors. We are seeing clients that want to do deals but they’re having difficulties getting the finance in place. And while the upper echelons of the residential property market were holding up, we are now seeing a downturn there.”
The four fee-earners constituted two per cent of the 176 total fee-earners the firm reported at year end.
Bircham Dyson Bell is budgeting zero growth in its real estate department this year. The spokesperson said: “We initially thought we were being pessimistic but now we see that if we could do what we did last year it would be an achievement.”
He added: “We still believe that given that we do a lot of public sector and private client work we’re probably better placed than some.”
