Outsourcer CPA Global has named former SJ Berwin senior partner David Harrel as its new chairman.
Harrel, who was senior partner at the City firm for 14 years before retiring in 2006, succeeds Geoffrey Grime, who will remain on the board as a non-executive director.
He said of his appointment: “This is a fascinating time for the legal industry and a time of great opportunity for CPA Global. Law firms and in-house legal departments are having to adopt new ways of working, which is leading to unprecedented change in the industry. CPA Global is well positioned to take advantage of that change.”
His time at the helm of SJ Berwin coincided with a period of huge growth for the City firm. Harrel oversaw the expansion of the partnership from 30 to 150 as well as the establishment of offices in Brussels, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Milan and Madrid.
Since retiring from private practice, Harrel has held advisory roles at wealth management firm Rathbone Brothers, investment company Wichford and investment service provider Kyte Group.
