Two partners from Thomas Cooper’s Paris office have split to launch a five-lawyer shipping boutique.
Peter Iglikowski and Lars Lewis, the founding partners of Lewis & Co, launched the shipping practice in May along with three associates: Guillaume de Bascher, Leïla Esnard and Michel Ferrer.
The firm will advise on French and English law for shipping, international trade and insurance matters, as well as assisting clients in Francophone Africa.
“These are exciting times for shipping lawyers,” said Lewis. “Our lawyers have worked together for a long time, and having enjoyed many years with London-based international law firms, the flexibility of an independent structure is now the right configuration for us.”
Iglikowski and Lewis established the Paris shipping practice of Richards Butler before leaving for Thomas Cooper following Richards Butler’s merger with Reed Smith in 2007.
