Media communications and market research company Aegis Group has appointed Mark Biddle as its group general counsel from Aviva.
Biddle was previously general counsel for RAC from 2004 until Aviva acquired the company last year.
The RAC dramatically slashed its Bristol-based legal services division following Aviva’s takeover, choosing to outsource its solicitors’ practice and uninsured loss recovery team. (The Lawyer, 15 May)
Legal services division head Jonathan Gulliford and managing director Eddie Ryan also left the company after the Aviva takeover, and were involved in helping to set up the Cooperative's new legal services division. (The Lawyer, 21 April)
Biddle had previously worked at Deutsche Bank for eight years, where he was director of legal services, responsible for supporting the M&A business. He qualified at Slaughter and May, working in the firm’s London and Hong Kong offices between 1989 and 1996.
Aegis chief executive Robert Lerwill said: “Aegis’s businesses are growing fast, and becoming more sophisticated and complex by the day. As such, we will appreciate Mark’s rigorous legal mind and a healthy dose of pragmatism in this important role.”
