Two former Nörr Stiefenhofer Lutz partners have set up a finance boutique in Germany in a bid to offer a more personalised service to clients.
Founding partners Hans-Günther Nordhues and Rainer Eichholz have established Frankfurt-based Nordhues & Cie, which opened on 1 April. It will specialise in offering advice on international capital markets financing.
Eichholz claimed: "The difference between Nordhues & Cie and other law firms is that, while we firmly remain a law firm, we think and act like investment bankers. We're deal-makers."
Both lawyers have experience in acquisition finance, commercial mortgage-backed securities and derivatives. The firm plans to focus on financing transactions, especially leveraged finance and securitisations.
The firm will start with five lawyers, but expects to at least double in size over the next two to three years.
Nordhues explained: "Our structure and our philosophy are a direct response to recent market developments. Clients increasingly prefer personalised advice and support to the anonymous atmosphere of a large law firm.
"There's a demand for investment banking advice outside banks, and investors choose their advisers on the basis of financial market expertise and knowledge."
