UK technology company Smiths Group has hired former ICI legal chief Michael Herlihy as its interim general counsel, after the departure of head lawyer David Lillycrop.
Herlihy has stepped in from legal consultancy Jomati after Lillycrop's resignation. Smiths Group has restructured its management and has dropped the top lawyer role from its board, prompting Lillycrop's resignation.
He has held the role since 2000, when Smiths merged with TI Group. The move comes as the company considers relocating abroad for tax reasons.
Smiths Group chief executive Philip Bowman said: "David has made a significant contribution to the business over many years and the board recognises the valuable service he has provided. We wish him well in the future."
