The former health minister who resigned over the Iraq war is to take up a new brief advising Beachcroft Wansbroughs health and social care division. Lord Hunt of Kings Heath (Philip Hunt) will be part of the team helping clients face the issues and implications of the constantly changing health sector. He will particularly support the firms focus on NHS Foundation Trusts. These new entities will be introduced by legislation currently going through Parliament, which will instigate a large-scale reshaping of the health sector. Foundation hospitals will gain considerable freedom from the Government and operate under a new system of governance making them accountable to their local community. The Beachcrofts team is assisting prospective NHS Foundation Trusts as they plan for the likely requirements, opportunities and risks of the forthcoming regime. Trevor Blythe, head of Beachcrofts health and social care division, said: "The current reorganisation is one of the largest transformations since the Health Service was first established, and every participant wants to know what the changes will mean to them. The Governments emphasis on greater independence for bodies like NHS Foundation Trusts and partnership in the provision of health and social care will require significant change in the way organisations operate. NHS Foundation Trusts, for instance, will be new legal entities and will need to fully understand the implications of their role, their responsibilities and potential liabilities. We are helping our clients to understand the road ahead and to assess what the plans will mean in practice, and to develop the infrastructure and new ways of working they will need to flourish. Philips insight and experience will be an invaluable extra dimension to our service."
