Staying with sport, Taylor Wessing appears to be building a veritable Olympic Games squad all of its own. Larger-than-life US specialist David Kent has just won a gold medal for England in a recent target-shooting competition, while private client partner Michael Stanford-Tuck is a past winner of the individual London Solicitors Inter-Firm Clay Pigeon Shooting Competition. A team from the firm has also won this event several times over the past decade. It's not all guns, though, which will probably please the firm's clients. Taylor Wessing's "family fun day" (bless) last month was a reminder to the clients and the lawyers alike that it boasts a national water-skiing champion in the wet-suited shape of corporate partner Martin Winter. Yet another partner, real estate specialist Rob Thomson, is a former captain of the Great Britain Men's Hockey Team. Tulkinghorn's personal favourite, however, and fast-becoming a fixture of these pages, is insolvency partner Michael Frawley. Recently, the rugby-loving Kiwi switched sports to bid for a cricket bat signed by the entire England Ashes 2002-03 team. Feeling generous, Frawley put himself down via email for a reasonable £20. Unfortunately, Frawley (who may or may not have just emerged from his local) somehow managed to add an extra nought. Not surprisingly, the £200 bid won. Now, apparently, all he has to do is learn exactly what cricket is.
