  • I have a TC for 2009 for a regional firm. In the future I will never, ever apply to Shoosmiths.

Yes, taking on trainees when there's no work available is no good to anyone involved. But is the current backlash really better than having just offered £5k for deferals in the first place?

The fact Shoosmiths could never have forseen this happening is irrelevant. In fact it shows exactly what they'll do to their own employees, given half a chance.

I'd love it, if current Shoosmiths lawyers could anonymously tell us how all this has gone down within the office?

  • I agree that this was a very well-balanced piece on a very interesting story. Even-handed, non-sensationalist journalism from The Lawyer? Whatever next, 0.5% BoE base rate???

  • ..."here we treat everyone without fear nor favour, so just because a couple of trainees defend the firm we’re not about to take out their legs as they’re more than entitled to their views"..."I don’t regret not offering"....
"lots of time" "..“The only way I would have regretted it was if we had been careless "....and this murder of English grammar by their own CE, who presumably had over a week to prepare his statement?
Ouch. Not sure which is the worse PR.
Incidentally, I find it highly amusing that lawyers are moaning about the compensation culture!
