  • It's a good firm with great people and some fantastic and loyal clients. It's regrouping. Sure some of this is management tosh and the internal comms are pretty hit and miss - but it means well. Keep on trucking Manches!

  • Didn't they try to off their Oxford office to Mills & Reeve, only for M&R to walk away once they'd kicked the tyres. Seems to me like they might do well to chase a full blown "merger" with M&R.

  • It's a little bit of a stretch to describe Manches as having property 'in the mix', given that the firm now only has 3 property partners (it lists 9 on its website, 3 of whom are litigators, 1 property finance, 1 corporate and 1 environmental).
    From having been a stalwart of property ten years ago, its offering is looking decidedly thin these days. I wonder how much of its15% is actually prop.lit, prop.finance and environment...that "focus" on real estate will require a microscope...

  • Energy, drive, determination and youth - they count for nothing. Manches is not a dot.com. What it needs is a CEO of the highest calibre with a proven track record, a mature, competent and experienced individual. The current incumbent is fostering a blame culture to deflect from her own inadequacies. Poor Manches.

  • The current CEO tells journalists one thing yet practises another. Staff are scared of her and she does not communicate with anyone outside of the partners.

  • The reality is that Petho has done very little in her time at Manches. She talks of her responsibility for implementing the "strategy" but has failed to communicate internally what this is and even if she did, the firm's managing structure is shambolic and does not give her the power to make any significant changes. Manches has seen some exceptional partners and lawyers depart in the past couple of years (many of whom aren't listed in the article). Until Petho realised that the firm's success lies in attracting, and then keeping, the best people it can get and that she needs to work with them and not seek to run a dictatorship, it will, sadly, continue to wain.
