London’s legal centre was crippled this morning (12 February) after a flood led to power cuts closing the Royal Courts of Justice (RCJ) and many chambers in the nearby vicinity.
Reports have reached The Lawyer that the power is unlikely to be re-established until 4pm today, which will mean that the RCJ will lose a whole day’s sitting costing the tax payer thousands of pounds.
The Treasury Solicitors office has been flooded closing down its operation for the day, while the Law Society has suffered a similar fate.
Brick Court, Blackstone and 39 Essex Street are said to have been affected and have set into motion contingency plans such as decamping to other friendly chambers.
