Fladgate has hired a corporate partner from Canadian firm McCarthy Tétrault, the London firm’s third partner hire in a week and the latest in a growing string of new arrivals.
Energy and resource specialist Paul Airley, who starts work with Fladgate on Monday, was with McCarthy Tétrault for six years after joining in January 2006 from Trowers & Hamlins, where he was an associate.
His arrival follows those of former Howard Kennedy joint head of real estate Gideon Dabby-Joory and litigation partner Sophia Purkis from Kingsley Napley.
“The arrival of these three senior lawyers takes the total number of partners to above 50 for the first time in our history,” said Fladgate chairman Charles Wander.
Wander added that the firm’s relocation to Covent Garden in 2010 was providing a platform from which it can take advantage of market opportunities.
“We’re predicting a double digit percentage increase in turnover for the current financial year,” added Wander. “Our aim is to add strength in depth and an increased spectrum of specialist areas. We’re anticipating additional strategic recruitment this year.”
Other recent appointments by Fladgate include Finers Stephens Innocent’s joint head of real estate Stephen Lewis, Olswang’s head of construction David Weare and corporate partner Amy Collins, Macfarlanes real estate partner Richard Reuben and Kim McMurray, formerly head of real estate finance at Halliwells.
