Fitzgerald to advise Competition Authority

The Irish Competition Authority has announced the members of its advisory panel, one of whom is Gerald Fitzgerald of Dublin firm McCann Fitzgerald.
The panel will advise on legal, policy and strategic issues, including the implementation of EU law and Ireland's new national competition legislation. Fitzgerald will not advise on individual cases; he is confident that there will be no conflicts with his private practice.
It will have four members, including barrister Gerald Hogan. The other two come from academia and industry. The appointments were made after soundings by the Irish government.
Fitzgerald was a member of the Competition and Mer-gers Review Group, which recommended an external panel. McCanns, where Fitzg-erald heads the European Union and competition team, is also the only Irish firm to have a Brussels office.
