First White & Case partner relocates to Africa under new plan

A White & Case London structured products and capital markets partner is relocating to Johannesburg as part of the firm’s new focus on Africa.

Josh Parbhu is the first partner move to Africa for the US firm after it announced its plan to expand its practice in Johannesburg to take advantage of an increasing number of project finance and capital markets opportunities in the region.

Parbhu has experience in structured products, capital markets and restructuring and will add a much-needed partner presence to the Johannesburg office on the finance side.

Until now the firm’s sole African office has primarily focused on projects. White & Case hopes Parbhu will help the firm win finance mandates as opportunities for infrastructure projects across Africa increase.

Earlier this year The Lawyer reported that White & Case plans to develop close ties with local firms in Africa as well as operate its practice out of Johannesburg and London (http://www.thelawyer.com/white-and-case-partners-to-forge-fresh-african-links/1000308.article 6 April).

Although the firm hopes to win work across Africa the main focus will be Angola, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria and Uganda.
