First Choice turned to longstanding adviser Herbert Smith in the latest German-UK tie-up in the tour operator industry: its £10bn combination with Tui. Client relationship partner David Paterson led the advice at Herbert Smith for First Choice, with finance partner Clive Barnard and competition partners Jonathan Scott and Veronica Roberts. Herbert Smith's German ally Gleiss Lutz also teamed up with the City firm to provide advice on German aspects. Meanwhile, Tui looked to Allen & Overy, with corporate partner Alistair Asher leading. US firm O'Melveny & Myers won a role on the competition side, with partner John Cook advising.
