Olswang acts for Euromoney Institutional Investor on agreement to acquire HSBC QT

Olswang has acted for Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC, one of Europe’s largest business and financial magazine publishers, on the agreement to acquire HSBC’s Quantitative Techniques (QT) operation. QT is the calculation agent business of HSBC Bank PLC and creates and maintains more than 100 equity and bond indices for HSBC’s Global Markets division and 60 other external clients.

Completion of the sale will take place after a transition phase, which is expected to take six months. This acquisition will allow Euromoney Institutional Investor to build a new business building independent index-compilation services, and leverage its strong relationships with financial institutions to expand QT’s customer base. Euromoney also plans to use QT’s index-calculation expertise to develop new index families across other parts of its business.

The Olswang team was led by corporate partner Stephen Hermer with assistance from partner Ross McKean and associates Yasmine Meeajun and Melanie Shefford.
