UK 200 2013 position: 23

Addleshaw Goddard opens office in Qatar

Addleshaw Goddard is increasing its capability across the Arabian Gulf and targeting further growth with the addition of a new office in Qatar — the firm’s third office opening in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region in the last nine months.

With bases in Doha, Dubai and Muscat, Addleshaw Goddard specialises in construction, projects, corporate, finance, arbitration, renewable energy, private wealth management and litigation across three jurisdictions in the GCC.

The Qatar office will be led by Hussein Damirji, formerly a partner at US law firm Patton Boggs, who specialises in corporate, commercial and family office (high-net-worth) investments. He will be joined by fellow partner Martin Brown, a banking and finance expert, who joins the firm from Denton’s Doha office. Damirji and Brown will be supported by a team of associates.

    Number crunching: Addleshaw Goddard

The past five years have not been easy for Addleshaw Goddard. The firm’s revenue fell 7 per cent from £173.1m to £161.9m between 2008/09 and 2010/11 and despite finances looking up in 2011/12, when Addleshaws reported a 30 per cent increase in net profit, it has shown no notable compound growth in turnover since 2007/08.
