Firms reject implant claims

FIRMS acting for claimants against the makers of silicone gel breast implants have hit back at plastic surgeons who accused them of initiating unnecessary litigation.

The consultant behind a study which failed to prove any link between the implants and increased risk of cancer, said matters had been “all blown up out of proportion by some US women and lawyers”.

But Leigh Day & Co partner Russell Levy says: “Women across the world who have developed symptoms consult their GP, rheumatologist or neurologist, not a plastic surgeon. There is a large body of evidence that there is a systemic disease caused by the implants.”

Solicitor Sally Booth ,of Irwin Mitchell, says: “There is a clear difference of medical opinion not created by lawyers. Our role is to advise clients to protect their rights to participate in the compensation fund.”
