Three Raymond Buildings barristers represent in Rwanda extradition hearing
The extradition hearing is under way in respect of five defendants who are accused of participating in the Rwandan Genocide in 1994. Three Raymond Buildings barristers James Lewis QC and Ben Brandon are representing the government of Rwanda, while Helen Malcolm QC and Rachel Kapila are representing two of the defendants.
This is the second extradition request; the first was discharged by the High Court in 2009 on the grounds that there was a real risk that the defendants would suffer an unfair trial in Rwanda.
The hearing is expected to last approximately eight weeks.
