Picken, Simon QC
Simon Picken is a very experienced advocate. His practice is extensive, covering a wide spectrum of commercial law, involving all types of contractual disputes with a special emphasis on insurance/reinsurance disputes, international arbitration, energy, professional negligence, banking, shipping and sovereign immunity.
Picken is increasingly instructed in sports-related matters.
He is frequently instructed in proceedings before the Commercial Court and in reinsurance and shipping arbitrations; Picken has also appeared a number of times in the Court of Appeal, House of Lords and Privy Council.
He is very experienced in handling very large-scale and high-value litigation, including a five month Commercial Court trial that he has recently completed. Picken adopts a very responsive, team-based and unstuffy approach to his practice.
In addition to his practice at the Bar, Picken sits as a recorder (part-time judge) in the Crown Court and the County Court, as well as a Deputy High Court Judge in the Queen’s Bench Division (both general and in the Administrative Court). He has also previously sat as a Chairman of Bar Disciplinary Tribunals.

On 5 June 2014, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal of the owners of Falkonera, a very large crude carrier (VLCC) against the judgment of Mr Justice Eder.
