Nabarro has slashed its partner promotions, making up three this year compared to its a bumper partner round of eight last year.
It is a return to smaller promotion rounds for the firm, which made up five partners in 2011 (18 April 2011) but only one partner the year after. In 2013 the firm broke with tradition to promote eight partners to its ranks but has now chopped the number again (16 April 2013).
The firm has stuck to its focus on London real estate lawyers, with two of the three lawyers in property teams dealing with some of the firm’s most longstanding clients. Associate Alan Crawford will become a real estate partner, Stewart Womersley is a funds and indirect real estate partner David Parrish joins the IP partnership. All come from the London office.
The firm was similarly focused on the Capital last year, with six of its promotions in London and two in Sheffield. It also made up five partners in real estate and construction fields but promoted three others in tax, corporate and dispute resolution.
Te firm has continued to promote all its new partners from its Talent Development Programme. The project was set up in 2010 with the aim of preparing senior associates for partnership (6 December 2010).
The scheme was a joint venture with London Business School and designed to create a wider pool of potential partnership candidates by putting up to 15 lawyers a year through a two-year course focusing on areas such as strategic projects, practice development work and thought leadership.
The firm has been focusing on international expansion in recent months, opening in Dubai in January 2014 (21 November 2013) and adding a partner to its Singapore office at the beginning of this year (17 January 2014).
It has turned to current partners to staff those offices. Its new Dubai office will be headed up by current construction and engineering head Terry Fleet after being granted the necessary licence and will launch with a team of four partners and associates.
New partner Crawford has worked with longstanding real estate clients Hammerson and Great Portland Estates while Womersley has built relationships with other stalwart clients Hermes, Land Securities and Grosvenor.
Meanwhile Parrish joined Nabarro in 2008 and has worked on trademark and brand protection work for high-profile clients like Levi Strauss.
Senior partner Graham Stedman said: “These are important, strategic promotions for Nabarro focusing on fast growing, complex areas of our business each with a significant international component.”
