Linklaters’ partner promotions have fallen to 21 from 24 in 2013 and the firm has reduced its focus on the mainstream corporate group.
The magic circle firm made up partners across 11 jurisdictions and eight practice areas but this year promoted only three made up in mainstream corporate compared to seven last year (29 April 2013).
Linklaters has boosted the number of female partners promoted dramatically, 43 per cent of its new partners are women - nine - compared to 13 per cent - three - last year.
The firm’s seven new London partners represent the balance of promotions, with three made up in banking, two in capital markets and one each in employment and litigation.
It is the lowest promotions round in two years following 2013’s haul of 23 new partners and 21 in 2012 (23 April 2012). However in 2011 the firm made up a starkly reduced round of only 18 partners, though six were taken into London (11 April 2011).
London continued to receive the most new partners of any jurisdiction, followed by Beijing and New York, with two new partners each. Madrid, Berlin, Bangkok, Singapore, Frankfurt, Lisbon, Tokyo, Brussels, Hong Kong and Beijing all Dubai all received one new partner each.
Capital markets was the most favoured practice area, receiving eight new partners across six jurisdictions, with the most promoted in London.
In addition, the firm also promoted three senior members of business services to associate director. They are Rachel Manser, knowledge and learning in London, Stefan Schwarz from management in Düsseldorf and Nick Sims, who works in strategy in London.
