Mills & Reeve partner welcomes £5m lottery funding for The Silver Line
Mills & Reeve partner Chris Belcher has welcomed the Big Lottery Fund’s decision to award £5m to The Silver Line, a befriending and advice helpline for older people set up by Esther Rantzen in 2012.
The Silver Line is said to be the first and only freephone helpline for older people to operate UK wide 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Following a successful pilot in the north west and the north east, the Isle of Man and Jersey, the service will launch nationally before Christmas.
According to Belcher, who is a trustee of The Silver Line, the grant will go a long way to securing the charity’s future and ensuring it provides vital help and assistance to older people.
Belcher was invited to join the Board of Trustees of The Silver Line as a result of his role as chairman of Solicitors for the Elderly.
