Macfarlanes has announced the promotion of four lawyers to partner, including two in its corporate practice.
The quartet - which includes two women - covers corporate, construction and disputes, with the news following the firm’s recent statement of an intention to rebalance its practice by picking up its emphasis on contentious and advisory work (12 March 2013).
They include transactional and advisory corporate lawyer Jessica Adam, who advised law firm Russell Jones & Walker on its sale to listed Australian firm Slater & Gordon (30 January 2012).
The remaining three new partners are non-contentious construction lawyer Angus Dawson, corporate lawyer Emmie Jones, who has advised Shell, Royal Vopak and Greenergy, and disputes specialist Andy Mather, who is currently advising largely on construction arbitration matters for Middle East clients.
Last year the firm promoted five to partner, including its first corporate promotion for five years (30 March 2012).
Senior partner Charles Martin said in a statement: “These appointments are further evidence of our focus on internal partner appointments, supplemented from time to time with lateral recruits. Three out of these four appointees trained with the firm and our commitment to trainee recruitment as an essential long-term investment is undiminished, notwithstanding the general market trend towards reduced numbers.
“As the mix of work types and our client base continue to adapt and evolve, activity levels across the firm remain encouraging. These appointments demonstrate our confidence that our distinctive offering and approach will continue to be successful in a rapidly changing and challenging market.”
