King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin wins Commercial Team of the Year
King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin has won Commercial Team of the Year at the British Legal Awards for its advice to Universal on the reorganisation of EMI Recorded Music along with the sale of the Parlophone Label Group.
Hosted by Legal Week, the British Legal Awards recognise the important contribution the legal business community makes to the UK economy and wider community. The judging panel is made up of senior general counsel and other business figures.
The team was one of six finalists for the award, which was announced at a ceremony in Old Billingsgate Market in the City of London.
It was a highly complex deal, involving more than 40 King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin lawyers.
The team was led by corporate partners Will Holder and Mark Sanders and commercial partner Andrew Shindler. It also drew on experience from the firm’s tax (lead partner Gareth Amdor), employment (lead partner Carl Richards) and litigation (lead partner Greg Lascelles) teams in London, Paris, Brussels and Frankfurt.
This follows the firm winning Competition Team of the Year at The Lawyer Awards for its advice to Universal on securing approval by the European Commission of its £1.2bn acquisition of EMI Recorded Music.
