DLA Piper provides training to ACC members on how to assist non-profit organisations
DLA Piper has partnered with Corporate Pro Bono and the Chicago chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) to host a Clinic in a Box programme at its Chicago office. The programme began with DLA Piper lawyers providing training to ACC members on how to assist non-profit organisations. ACC members then met with non-profit leaders to answer their legal questions.
Clinic in a Box was developed by Corporate Pro Bono, a joint initiative of the ACC and the Pro Bono Institute. DLA Piper and the ACC launched Chicago’s Clinic in a Box three years ago.
Six DLA Piper lawyers provided training at this year’s event to about 50 in-house lawyers on the basics of providing legal counsel to non-profits, including finance and fiscal management, governance, human resources, intellectual property and real estate.
After the training, teams of ACC lawyers sat down with about 15 Chicago area non-profit organisations to provide legal assistance.
The non-profit organisations that participate must maintain a certain minimum operating budget, be actively operating and in existence for several years and be an incorporated 501(c)(3) non-profit organisation.
