Conyers Dill & Pearman

Offshore Top 30 position: 6

Conyers’ BVI office achieves top-tier ranking in Chambers Global 2014

Conyers Dill & Pearman’s British Virgin Islands (BVI) office has been ranked in Band 1 in both the corporate and finance and dispute resolution categories in Chambers Global 2014.

In addition, four of Conyers’ BVI-based lawyers — Robert Briant, Mark Forte, Richard Evans and Anton Goldstein — were praised for their industry-leading expertise.

Moving up the rankings in 2014, the BVI office’s corporate and finance team was recognised for ‘its involvement in a significant number of prominent BVI transactions’, including advising on the $55bn (£33bn) sale of TNK-BP to Rosneft.

Top-ranked Robert Briant, who is noted as ‘one of the most prominent players in the market’, led this transaction, along with Anton Goldstein, who debuted in this year’s rankings table having ‘earned tremendous praise for his contribution to the success of the practice’.

The BVI office’s litigation team once again received a top-tier ranking, with Chambers highlighting its ‘excellent reputation for handling some of the BVI’s largest and most complex disputes’.

Practice head Mark Forte was endorsed for the sixth consecutive year, noted for his involvement in ‘high-profile cross-border disputes and insolvency cases’. Joining him in Band 1 was Richard Evans, ‘a guy who can think outside of the legal box’, making Conyers the only BVI firm to have two top-ranked litigators.

In addition to its strong BVI rankings, Conyers was also recognised as a Band 1 firm in the global offshore category.
