Clifford Chance has promoted 20 lawyers to partners across its global network, seven fewer than last year.
The magic circle’s City office has gained five new partners, one more than last year. Meanwhile a further 10 promotions are in continental Europe. The Paris office promoted three lawyers, Madrid and Frankfurt each promoted two, while Amsterdam, Düsseldorf and Milan had one each.
Among the five new partners in London, The Lawyer predicted the promotion of senior associate Tom Evans, a private equity starlet, in a recent City analysis on Clifford Chance’s private equity client retention (22 April 2013)
Elsewhere, three were promoted in Asia, with two in Singapore and one in Shanghai. Clifford Chance’s New York and Riyadh offices have also elected one new partner each.
The firm’s finance department gained eight partners. Five corporate lawyers were promoted, and two in capital markets. The litigation team added three partners and the real estate team two.
The promotions will bring the total number of partners in the firm to 589. Last year, the firm promoted a total of 27 lawyers to the partnership, including four in London (27 April 2012).
“Many of this year’s new partners have demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting the growth of the firm’s offering internationally, including leading development efforts in a wide range of markets beyond their ‘home’ office, into Scandinavia, the Middle East, Latin America and South East Asia. This international mind-set is at the heart of our firm’s culture and it is very pleasing to see our principles so clearly embodied in these individuals,” said David Childs, Clifford Chance managing partner.
