Chadbourne acts as counsel on three Project Finance Magazine Deals of the Year
Chadbourne & Parke has revealed that it acted as counsel on three award-winning Project Finance Magazine Deals of the Year 2012 — EMEA. The three energy projects were in North Africa, South Africa and the Middle East.
In North Africa, Jorf Lasfar Extension was named African Power Deal of the Year 2012. In this deal, Chadbourne partner Robin Mizrahi and associate Laure Berthelot represented the guarantor — Morocco state-owned Office National de l’Electricite et de l’Eau Potable — in connection with the $1.4bn (£901m), 700MW extension of the existing 1,350MW coal-fired power project at Jorf Lasfar, Morocco.
The African Wind Deal of the Year 2012 was awarded to Dorper wind project in South Africa. Chadbourne international partner Clint Steyn, senior counsel Lynne Gedanken and associates Marco deSousa and Rodion Yemelyanenko represented the lenders ABSA and Nedbank, and advised on the development and financing of the 100MW Dorper wind project situated in the Eastern Cape.
The Refinancing of Barka IIWPP won Middle Eastern Power Deal of the Year 2012. Chadbourne partner Agnieszka Klich and associates Julie Scotto and Ali Donat represented ACWA Power Barka on the successful refinancing of its existing debt of $190.39m using the proceeds of new non-recourse debt facilities arranged by Bank Muscat, National Bank of Oman and Arab Banking Corporation. The law firm also advised ACWA Power Barka on a $43.1m non-recourse financing to expand its water desalination facility.
