  • Stop Press - Over supply and downturn in the legal market leads to price competition! Must be nice still living in 2007.

  • Nev,

I think that is called 'free competition'.

    How dare they undercut us.

  • DAMN THEM!

  • Is BLP being undercut, or is it just too expensive for what it delivers and hasn't realised it? Value is in the eye of the client, not the seller.

  • “We’re at the closing stages of integrating an integrated proposal which is a menu of options for particular assignments,”

What sort of management meaningless gobbledegook is that statement?! Go and do some work Neville, its not that complicated...

  • It's a bold move to tell the world that your competitors are more competitive than you. I guess there is some logic to that...it's just that I can't see it.

Its also bold for them to seperate themselves from the MC as it the MC has a right to be more expensive than them (or at least not cheaper) - this if anything re-enforces the stereotype that there is a reason for the MC to be more expensive (which of course there is not).

The thing about speaking to the press is that you need to be clear about what you are trying to say - the message we are reading / seeing is perhaps not that which was intended to be delivered. All I can see from this is a large white flag, fluttering gently in the breeze.

  • The problem BLP has it that their ambition and their egos exceed their skills and abilities. They perceive themselves as blue chip magic circle competitors, but no one else does (I bet even their clients chuckle at the thought). You don't jump from an okay mid size firm with a mediocre brand to a global powerhouse by taking on a few retiring and "reshaped" magic circle partners and then offering them packages in excess of what you are paying your legacy solid partners

  • Saying you are being kicked in the backside by the magic circle is a pretty hopeless public position for a silver circle firm. A change of management is badly needed.

  • Career suicide really.

  • BLP got their stategy wrong. Why would any Magic Circle Partner make a lateral move to BLP? Maybe because the MC firm they were at no longer wanted them......they didn't hire quality.

  • Boohoo. Does he think this work is BLP's right?

  • I suspect if BLP's clients read this, they may now get in touch with the MC firms - get a better job done for a lower price!!

  • Isn't the problem that BLP tried to build a business model upon hiring former magic circle partners and associates, and paying them more than they'd receive at the magic circle? Hardly a surprise that BLP then has a higher cost base than the magic circle, and gets undercut.

  • I only clicked on this story because I thought it said "Heisenberg". I thought for a second that BLP were selling meth
