It's been clear for weeks that Coudert has been deluded about its future. Even after it announced its dissolution, spokespeople were talking about "the firm's strengths".
So Tulkinghorn was unsurprised to see an advert in the July edition of a French business magazine, in which Coudert Frères celebrated its multidisciplinary practice, which works "in close relation with Coudert's other worldwide offices".
That would be the close relationship which last week saw Coudert Paris link up with Dechert, after the rest of the firm had made the leap to different homes such as Baker & McKenzie, DLA Piper and Orrick.
