FFW unveils alternative to partner position

The director role was launched in August and has already been taken up by three associates following a selection process.

A firm spokesperson said the position was set up for two categories of lawyer: those who undertake high-level work but “do not get involved in the business development and people management responsibilities required for a partnership role”, and those who decide not to pursue partnership for lifestyle reasons.

Those in the latter group will still be eligible for ­partnership in the future.

Directors will be given an annual salary similar to or above that for a senior ­associate.

The spokesperson added that the move was designed to allow a “more structured career development framework for its fee-earners”.
