Field Fisher Waterhouse (FFW) has introduced a new career path for senior associates as an alternative to partnership.
The director role was launched in August and has already been taken up by three associates following a selection process.
A firm spokesperson said the position was set up for two categories of lawyer: those who undertake high-level work but “do not get involved in the business development and people management responsibilities required for a partnership role”, and those who decide not to pursue partnership for lifestyle reasons.
Those in the latter group will still be eligible for partnership in the future.
Directors will be given an annual salary similar to or above that for a senior associate.
The spokesperson added that the move was designed to allow a “more structured career development framework for its fee-earners”.
